Review: Tropical Traditions Coconut Cream Concentrate

22 July 2010 One Comment
I reviewed the CCC for Tropical Traditions blog in March, along with a giveaway. I am wayyyy behind on posting my reviews and giveaways here for the products they so graciously gave me to review before we left. Hopefully I will get them up soon.
We have been using the Tropical Traditions products for over a year now. We started with their Virgin Coconut Oil, and I remember that when Amanda opened the first jar she got to review, I couldn’t believe how wonderful it smelled! She had been buying organic coconut oil locally at a Kroger, and the Tropical Traditions just smelled SO different! It smelled like COCONUTS! We just went on and on about how delicious it smelled.
It’s easy to review for TT. I had thought about reviewing and thought about it, and the Coconut Cream Concentrate is one of my favourite of all their products I have tried, so I asked if I could review it.
When you receive your Coconut Cream Concentrate, it will likely come to you ‘unmixed’. My jar had naturally separated and hardened, so all we had to do was heat it up in a bowl of hot water and stir it when it became soft enough. You can see a video of how to do that HERE. Then, it was ready to use in my coffee. Yes, that is my favourite use for it, so I had to have a cup. http://www.tropicaltraditions.com/images/coconut%20cream%20concentrate%2032oz.jpg

The Recipes:

Rachel is the main baker-cook in our home, and she has used the CCC in many things. Because I love it in my coffee, she has made us a special treat: the Tropical Traditions Coffee Heaven recipe. I love it in the Coconut Cream Hot Chocolate, too.  I also like it on my grits, mixed with some butter. Like their Virgin Coconut Oil, it adds just a slight bit of flavour of coconut, and the Coconut Cream makes it smooth and creamy.

I LOVE these and Rachel can’t make them too often, because I will eat them all! Quick Lemon Coconut Candy.

I would love to try a few of their other recipes, like the Easy No-Bake Coconut Cream Cheesecake Recipe, and we have some of their Greens, so the Green Coconut Smoothie Recipe looks good too! If you don’t have any, don’t worry, the Coconut Cream Green Smoothie Recipe looks great too.

Honestly, when it is hardened in the jar, I will just get out a spoon and eat it right out of the jar, but that’s just me. It’s like a treat, creamy and sweet – and coconutty (it says that’s not a word?).

The Particulars:

Coconut Cream Concentrate is 100% pure coconut, with nothing else added! That also means it is gluten-free!

You might wonder: “Does one get the same benefits with Coconut Cream Concentrate™ as Coconut Oil?

From the site: “Coconut Cream Concentrate is certified organic whole coconut meat in concentrated form. It contains no additives (not even water). The dried coconut meat is ground into a very fine powder, giving it a creamy consistency due to its high fat content. Since it is 70% fat, it is a rich source of pure coconut oil. Note: this is a food, not a cooking oil.

If you like coconut milk, you can mix 1 or 2 teaspoons of Coconut Cream Concentrate with water or juice to make a creamy coconut milk drink.

We love to use it in our cooking and baking. “It is also an excellent ingredient for cooking and baking. Because of its low moisture content, it can be mixed right in the batter or dough of breads and pastries. It can also enhance soups, be blended with smoothies, or made into ice cream. Many people just eat it straight, or spread it on breads and crackers, because it is so delicious! For some great recipes, get the Virgin Coconut Oil book.”

OOhhhhh! Doesn’t ice cream sound good too!

I just received my first jar of this an am absolutely in love with it!! I warmed it up, stirred it till smooth and promptly put it in the fridge so it wouldn’t separate again. So…this morning I chipped some chunks off from the CEMENT BLOCK. There has to be a better way?! How do you keep it soft enough to spoon, but not have to stir it every time? Thanks so much!
