Bible Reading Challenge

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i190/SoulRestES/Rachels%20Blogs/BannerforbibleChallenge.jpg

I have decided to do a one year Bible reading. I am posting about it because I want everyone to join me. I am planning on reading 3 chapters a day. There is a linky at the end of this post that you can sign if you want to join me.

Here is what you have to do -

  1. Read the three chapters a day – after reading them, pray for at least 15 minutes, for anyone who needs prayers and for your heart to be opened, and whatever else you need. (You can also leave a comment here, if you want me to pray for you or someone you know needs prayer. I would be happy to pray for you or anyone else that needs it. :)
  2. Post about what you read on your blog when you read your Bible, giving the Scripture you read and what it meant to you.
  3. Make a category for this on your blog to post your posts in.
  4. Announce the Challenge on your blog, using the icon and banner I made.
  5. Sign the Mr. Linky, which will be on every one of *my* Bible reading posts, with the link to *your post*. (So I can check it out!)

I know there was the 90-Day Bible Reading Challenge blog that Jenna set up for the people who wanted to read the Bible in 90 days, and some of you may have done that. But I don’t want to just zip through the Bible and not understand what I am reading. I tried reading the 12 chapters a day for the 90-Day Challenge, but I couldn’t keep up. I think 3 chapters a day gives you enough to think on and is enough to understand what you are reading.

I plan on getting up early in the morning and doing my Bible Time then and my Prayer Time also. But you can do it before you go to bed or during the day. I would recommend that you do it in the morning when you get up. I feel more refreshed in the morning when the gray dawn is approaching and the birds are starting to sing. Don’t you? :)

Well, I hope you join me. You don’t have to post about your Bible Reading everyday if you can’t, but that is one of the requirements. I would like to read over your posts is all and comment on them. You can get the icon code from the textbox in the sidebar.

One of my favourite Scriptures is in 2 Timothy, chapter 3, verse 15-17 -

15And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

16All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

17That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

Some more Scriptures I like are about the wisdom that comes from God and reading His Word.

Psalm 111:10
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.

Proverbs 1:7
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 9:10
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

To fear the Lord is to begin to have knowledge. We all need to remember that.

The Lord is greatly to be praised, as 1 Chronicles 16:25For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised: he also is to be feared above all gods,” says. One way we can praise Him is by reading His Word and by acting on it. Jesus and Paul tell us how to act in the New Testament. You can find all about it if you go read the Word for yourself. :)

What more can I say? I will be starting mine Sunday and will be taking notes in my son-to-be Bible Notebook. I will use those notes in my posts. I hope to see many names on the Linky by then!

Taking on the Challenge,

I hope you have enjoyed reading the thoughts and happenings of a fourteen-year-old girl from the country. “You can do all things through CHRIST who strengthens you!” Philippians 4:13

Thanks so much for informing me! Unfortunately, I just started a Bible study a few days ago, but I will definitely be staying in tuned with yours. I enjoy hearing what others say about certain parts of scripture, and then I read it and see how we differ or are the same in thoughts.
And I would love to come when the B’s go on up, for I had a very good time last time. Your family is just so sweet and wholesome, and full of entertainment. :) Especially the Littles.
I will continue watching and keeping up with the challenge, even though I will be studying something else.:)
    Have a Great Day!
    Love

Thanks, Rachel. =) My S.S. teacher doesn’t like the idea of reading the Bible through in one year, because you don’t have enough time to study it… But I think it’s fine. ; ) I’ll keep up with this as best I can, and at the end of the week I’ll post my favorite three chapters I read the previous week! =)

Also, are we supposed to start from the beginning, or will anywhere do?

  39. I am hoping to read through the bible in a year. I have been reading five chapters a day, in the mornings. I started on Monday, so a bit late, but hope to get through it all the same. I have a few ideas for when I get to the long liniage section, but we shall see. Maybe making family chains, writing down the names and seeing how they all link together. It might help me enjoy it a bit more. *smile* I haven’t made any attempt to lable my entries so yet, but I have a list of my rescent entries on the right hand side of my blog.
Enjoy your time in God’s word and have a wonderful day! *smile*

  40. Rachel,
I would love to join you in this. My family has been reading through the Bible together since September. We are pretty faithful with our reading, but I am not able to blog about it daily.

I would be willing to try and blog about it weekly, if that would be acceptable. I would love this opportunity to further encourage my readers to read their Bible in a year! Please let me know if I can participate, knowing that I won’t be able to blog daily.

    Dear Mrs. Molly -
You are very welcome to join me in this Challenge. and as you see, I have not really followed my own guidelines about posting every day. But you are welcome to post about it whenever you want to!

I would be delighted if you participated in this. I wish more people would come and sign the linky too. Make sure you do!

How did you find my blog?

    [Reply]

  42. Great, Rachel! I’ll be back later today to sign the linky and get the widget for my blog. I found your blog through either your mom or your sister’s blog…can’t remember which! And I found them through the Homeschool Blog Awards.

Looking at your blog and those of your sisters has been an encouragement! It is exciting to see how the Lord is using your parents to raise up godly children.

    Blessings,

I am looking forward to reading your posts. I am very glad you will be joining me for this, even tho it is a bit late. :) Haha.

  44. Yes, it is late for joining you…though we began in June :-) and have finished a large part of the Old Testament already.

And it is never too late to start reading your Bible, right?! I hope that several of my readers will take up the challenge. I love that you are doing this, as it provides some accountability and a spur to those who might not have considered reading through the Bible in a year otherwise.

  47. Rachel,
Am I supposed to submit a comment every time I post about our Bible reading? I’m hoping to do it weekly, on the theme Wednesday in the Word. I did post about our reading twice last week, but once a week will probably be a stretch for me!
