Rosa Of Linden Castle Discussion 10-12
This weeks’ reading was so great! I loved reading chapters 10-12… I must say, I got up to chapter 18 in no time, I was so captivated by what Rosa learns and does.
Rosa Visits Her Father In Prison chapter 10
I loved reading this part. The part where father and daughter are reunited in such a cold dwelling as a prison cell. I was almost jumping off my bed when she goes to the cell with the steward who looks after the prisoners of Kunerick’s castle. The overwhelming tears that came to Rosa’s eyes when she saw her father also welled in mine. I could not retain the joy I felt at the thought of a father being once again united with her father whom she loved so dearly. And to think that the steward did not know he was helping Rosa to see her long-lost father. It was a time to rejoice with Rosa! I loved the scene. Edelbert is so calm and reserved. His thoughts are only of his daughter, whom he thinks be so far away. He aches to hold her once again in his arms. Little does he know who it is bringing him food and drink. ;)
Rosa Makes Herself Known To Her Father chapter 11
This part was even more joyous! I loved how Edelbert is in bewilderment at the thought of Rosa, his Rosa!, being there in his prison cell. I loved it how she tells him. She is such a kind and loving daughter. She wishes nothing for herself, only for the comfort of her father. She comes when she knows very well if she was seen, she could endanger the life of her father and herself. She could very well become a slave or even put into a cell like her father. She lights a lamp and walks to the prison. She reminds me of a Christian taking the Light of the Gospel to people in a foreign country. “She lighteth while it is still night, and maketh ready her household.” This verse somewhat reminds me of what Rosa does. As she leaves her dear father once again to be in agony in his cell, she darkens her light, and goes back to her bed.
Rosa Ministers To Her Father In Prison chapter 12
This is my favourite part. The day after Kunerick leaves to go on his hunting party, Rosa sets to works making little trifles to make her father more comfortable in his damp and dreary prison cell. The magic of what a clean room to live in makes such a difference to the spirit of a once desolate man. I loved that Rosa took her father to the garden and let him enjoy the sunlight after being so long in the prison cell, and while he was not there, took it upon herself to rend the room more comfortable for him. With the help of a friend of Edelbert who works in the castle, Rosa completely changes the dreary prison cell into a comfortable living area for her father. If only we could all make such duties our own! I try to make sure the house is cleaned up, dinner started and the kitchen cleaned when Dad comes home. It is no small thing to do this. I am sure that after doing such a thing for her father, Rosa felt happy, as she should. We should all be happy when we clean up something for our families. I know I feel a sense of accomplishment when I have served the last of the plates for dinner, and sit down to eat my own plate.
I very much enjoyed these three chapters. I am sure you will too.
Eager to read on,

I love the way that as you are telling the story about Rosa, you intertwine your own life and parallel her story with things that you are doing in real life.
I also really liked the comparison of the lighting of the lamp with taking the light of the Gospel. You make the story very interesting.
